R/GA is one of the world’s most innovative digital agencies. Working with a variety of Fortune 500 clients and startups, they create memorable and unique digital experiences. Famous for Nike+, R/GA has become known for connected product and ecosystem design. Never content to settle, the company re-invents itself every nine years.

Role Summary

  • Five years at R/GA (2010-2014).

  • Grew from UX designer to Senior UX to Interaction Design Director to Associate Creative Director.

  • Joined the Mobile and Social Platforms group in 2011, providing digital thought leadership to the agency.

  • Individual contributor for Verizon, Nike, Mastercard, Goldman Sachs.

  • Lead design teams for L’Oréal, Tiffanys, Tchibo, Logitech.

  • Created advisor program that spanned three offices and mentored 30+ designers.

 

Responsive web and personalization

I worked on L’Oréal for a year and half where I lead a team of UX designers. The ask was to create a personalized responsive site ‘better than Sephora’. We crafted the vision of personalization and provided the necessary design artifacts to create the new site. In addition to overseeing five workstreams, I provided a unifying approach to personalization. Additional deliverables were created for technology vendors to achieve best-in-class personalization. We were awarded the L2 Digital Genius award the following year.

Retail work  

There was great opportunity to connect digital experiences with physical ones in the Mobile & Social platforms group. I was able to design apps that would enhance the retail experience, but also considered the retail space. For Tiffany, my team designed an experience that allowed customers to browse rings and try them on using AR. They could store their favorites and schedule an appointment to see them in-store. Upon entering the store, the rings would be laid out and waiting for them. We helped Tiffany connect digital properties to in-store behavior and create a CRM database for their sales representatives.

Internet of Things

I was Creative Director for multiple teams working in the IoT space. I loved how digital products were becoming physical and the types of experiences this would enable. QBO was a connected coffee machine we created for the Starbucks of Germany - Tchibo. We were to create a compelling experience that would support their DRM for coffee pods technology. I also ran that team who expanded Logitech’s home theater controls into the smart home space.

New Business Development

I had the opportunity to pitch some amazing new business while at R/GA. Pitches are basically two to three weeks of constant rapid decision making. They are a great opportunity to develop communication and alignment skills. I lead the design efforts on the two pitches below. We won both accounts.

Client management app for Equinox personal trainers. We proposed a connected ecosystem of customizable playlists (workouts) that would allow them to maintain consistency while providing a unique and personalized experience to each client.

By aligning Activia to a larger behavior of achieving balance and making small shifts to a better self, we were able to win the account.

  • Lead teams and managed resourcing for projects with multiple workstreams.

  • Worked with third party vendors to translate design concepts to existing technical infrastructure.
